Ridgefield Lions Club Annual Scholarship – Deadline for scholarship is the second Friday in May of each year.

The Ridgefield Lions have awarded over $400,000+ worth of scholarship over the past 30+years
to outstanding students from the Ridgefield Community.

It is the goal of the Ridgefield Lions to provide yearly scholarships to students from the Ridgefield Community that have graduated from Ridgefield High School and/or other high schools as long as the student/parents live within the Ridgefield School District.  The number of scholarships and amounts of the scholarships may vary from year to year, based upon the available funds.  The scholarships will be awarded based on the philosophy of Lionism, while maintaining exemplary standards of scholarship, citizenship and community service.

There are numerous categories of scholarships.  Scholarships are awarded to qualified and deserving senior high school and higher education students. In 2023 $27,000 in Scholarship for High School Students living in the Ridgefield School District and upper division scholarships for student entering Junior or higher year of college.  [Typically, more than 10 scholarships are awarded each year]

Many of our scholarships are named in honor and memory of past Lions:  Don Fergen, Hank Boehm, Ken Bisbee, and Bob Hyatt] and current Lion donors.

  • Senior Scholarship Application used for all High School Students: Scholarships are awarded to outstanding seniors interested in continuing their education at a university, community college and/or vocational technical school.
  • Robert Hyatt Spudder Spirit Scholarship: In addition to the high school application process students can also apply for the Robert Hyatt Spudder Spirit Scholarship by attaching an essay of up to 200 words on; “What does Spudder Spirit mean to me as a student.”  [A $5,000 scholarship established by Phyliss Hyatt and Family].
  • Starfish Scholarship: In addition to the high school application process students can also apply for this scholarship by attaching as essay of up to 300 words on: “How they have made a difference in their community.” [$1,000 Scholarship established by Angela & Andrew Gardner]
  • Turnaround Scholarship(s): Up to $2,000 has been designated to honor a student(s) who have made Significant turnaround/ positive growth at RHS.  School Counselors will nominate students to be considered for this scholarship.
  • Burkle Family Scholarships: Scholarship of $3,000 awarded to students that really need the support in order to attend college or technical school.
  • Adkins Family Scholarship: Scholarship of $2,000 awarded to a student who is pursuing a vocational trade school or technical school education.
  • Cliff Clark Heart of Gold Scholarship of $2,000:   Cliff Clark led a modest life.  Growing up, his family received help along the way, so when Cliff achieved success as an adult, he firmly believed in giving back to the community that had given so much to him.  Regardless of the event or cause, Cliff was the first to show up to help, and the last to leave.  He exemplified the Lion’s slogan: Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion.  Cliff never judged others and simply wanted everyone to have a chance to succeed.  In order to qualify for this scholarship, you will need to write a short essay (500 words or less) in which you explain what your educational plans are and describe how you have directly impacted your community through acts of service.
  • Upper Division Scholarship Application is used by college juniors through graduate students: Is available to students that graduated from RHS and or lived in the Ridgefield District and graduated from a neighboring public or private high school.

NOTE: The Ridgefield Lions will hold scholarships for up to two years from the time that a certificate is awarded.   Extensions can be made based upon special circumstances as reviewed by the Scholarship committee.   These special requests would need to be submitted to the Ridgefield Lions – C/O Scholarship Chair, P.O.
